Come along and help Bob’s Trophy Charters break the current state record by catching a halibut that weighs 450lbs!! You never know which fish will bite your line and wouldn’t that be exciting for us all to see? No matter what size fish you catch, you’ll be sure to have fun fishing with our terrific crew! Go for it!
Ocean-run Salmon are
available for fishing year round in Kachemak Bay. Ocean “Spawner”
Kings are fished May through July. Silvers are hot in late July through
early September. Ocean “Feeder” Kings are a young, great tasting fish and
they are available all summer. For that matter, they can be fished in the
winter as well especially during our yearly Winter King Tournament in March.
This year for the tournament we hosted NFL “Hall of Famer”
Larry Csonka
along with Audrey Bradshaw from NAPA's TV show “North to Alaska.” Larry took
15th place in the derby when he caught a rare White King weighing 19.6 lbs.
Audrey also landed a king weighing 17.16 lbs. and we were thrilled. There
were 855 anglers, and this year only 75 fish were caught and 2 were landed on the Huntress! All
of our boats are equipped to fish for salmon with downriggers and trolling
gear. If you’d like to combo for salmon and halibut, we can do that, but
please arrange for that with us in advance. Ask your captain about limits as
which varies per species and location.
Lingcod season opens July 1st.
Lingcod is a delicacy and delicious to
eat but they sure are ugly looking fish! They are round and long and must be
34 inches to keep. The lingcod limit is 2 per person. Lingcod hide in rocky
areas and bite on jigs. They are a lot of fun to catch and many anglers
combo for halibut and lingcod. Since lingcod are available only in certain
areas, the weather must be favorable for the boats to get to their lingcod
spots. If you can’t get down there, you will surely catch your halibut and
we will refund the cost of the combo ($50.00 additional per person on our
six pack boats).
Rockfish such as black bass are also
found in Kachemak bay waters. They are light weight and usually fished as a
halibut combo trip. Ask about limits since it varies according to the type
of rockfish caught.
Gear and bait are provided as well as any instruction or assistance you need, plus we fillet your fish for free. Our vessels have heated cabins and toilet facilities. It is best to wear warm clothing, rubber soled shoes and bring rain gear (just in case). All our captains are friendly, knowledgeable about the fisheries, and have experience navigating our Alaskan waters. The boats have GPS and Depth Sounders, and all the necessary equipment to make your fishing charter productive, fun and safe.
