Short Range Halibut Charters
A Short Range Halibut Trip is a perfect option for many people who would like to go halibut fishing while spending less time than a full day out on the water. If your time in Homer is limited but you would like to experience Alaskan halibut fishing and try for a bigger fish than on the 1/2 day charters, this might be your option. With a lower cost than a full day charter, this charter is the perfect opportunity to catch your 2 per person per day halibut limit. Since the regulations have changed in 2014 and now1 halibut can be only 29" or less, and the other halibut in your limit can be any size, this charter gives you a chance to look for a bigger 2nd fish than on the half day boats.
The short range halibut trip is offered on our 50' boat, the Nauti-Lady. We have a very nice crew with Captain John Phillips who has been fishing in Homer for over 25 years and he helps out on the deck as well. We carry 1-2 deckhands, depending upon how many people are onboard so you will always have 2-3 people helping you. They will bait your hook and assist you with the techniques to become a successful angler and land those halibut! The deckhands will also clean and filet your catch and they can also arrange fish processing for you.
We offer complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate and hot spiced cider onboard. The cabin is heated and there is a ladies and men's room on the boat. Our boat is very clean and well- maintained for your enjoyment.
Like our other charters, you will need to wear warm, layered clothing, wear rubber soled shoes like sneakers work good, and bring rain gear just in case. You can bring any snacks or food you would like to eat during the trip as well. A camera or smart phone for pictures of the beautiful scenery and marine life would be nice to have along. You will need a fishing license which we sell at our office and a derby ticket, of course! :-)
Departure time: 8:00 AM -check in by 7:30 AM to be onboard no later than 7:45 AM for a routine safety briefing and to complete paperwork requirements.
Run Time: The boat will travel about 25-30 miles about 1 1/2 hours or so. This time and distance could vary more or less depending upon weather conditions.
Return Time: The boat will return around 2:00 PM.
Season: May through September
Availability: 17 seats per day
After you take pictures, your crew will clean and filet your fish. These halibut are the best tasting fish- halibut are mild and delicate and can be cooked in so many delicious ways. In fact, some anglers take their fresh catch to Capt. Patty’s Seafood Restaurant on the Homer Spit since it is the only place in town that will cook YOUR catch for your lunch or dinner! You can’t eat any fresher halibut than that! Otherwise, we can help you to get your halibut processed to take home with you. Fish Processing is done at one of two places in town: www.myalaskafish.com or www.welovefish.com
Come on and hook up with us for a great halibut fishing charter experience!
